Hanna-Barbera’s
The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show was a spin-off of one of
America’s most beloved cartoon families,
The Flintstones. In
the new series, Pebbles Flintstone and the brawny Bamm-Bamm
Rubble had grown up to be healthy teenagers (as well as
boyfriend and girlfriend), attending Bedrock High School with
pals Moonrock, Wiggy and Penny. Other characters included Fred
and Wilma Flintstone, Barney and Betty Rubble, Pebbles' rival
Cindy with her sidekick Fabian, a motorcycle gang called the
Bronto Bunch, and Bad-luck Schleprock, whose sullen demeanor,
low-worn hat, and perpetual bad luck were always good for a
laugh.
The show chronicled the zany adventures - and misadventures
- of the energetic teens. They got around in Bamm-Bamm's
jalopy, and Pebbles - much like her father Fred - was always
coming up with "brilliant ideas" that ended up getting the
gang into some sort of trouble. Taking their cue from other
popular music-based cartoons like The Archies, Pebbles,
Bamm-Bamm and the gang were also in a rock band, the Bedrock
Rollers. Former Dennis the Menace, Jay North, voiced
Bamm-Bamm, while Sally Struthers, All in the Family's Gloria
Bunker, did the honors for Pebbles.
The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show had quite a successful run.
After appearing on its own for the entire 1971-72 season,
reruns played on The Flintstones Comedy Hour from 1972-1974.
In 1974 the show went back to its original half-hour format,
running in reruns until 1976.

"Nothing is as
groovy as the boom boom boom
Of the band
with the Bedrock beat.
Pebbles and
Bamm-Bamm and all of the gang
Short or tall
we have a ball wherever we meet.
Everything is
going for the Bedrock bunch.
All the gang is
here at the new drag strip.
You'll see Fred
and Barney, too
On the Pebbles
and Bamm-Bamm Show." |
