ixty-five million years ago, an
evil, alien scientist named Argor Zardok visited prehistoric
Earth through a trans-dimensional gateway. Surprised to find
dinosaurs in evidence, he hit on the idea of using the dinosaurs
to assist in his ambitions for conquest against his Quadrainian
home world. Using advanced technology, he mutated four dinosaurs
and imbued them with special abilities. But when Argor attempted
to command the dinosaurs he discovered he had given them too
much intelligence. The dinosaurs quickly deduced why he had
created them and pitted themselves against him.
Ditching his first, failed batch
of dinosaurs, Argor transformed three new dinosaurs; this time
making them less intelligent, but more vicious and open to
suggestion. He also outfitted them with futuristic weapons.
Finding his new creations more amenable, he set about creating
an entire army of dinosaur minions.
Meanwhile, hot on Argor's trail
was fellow Quadrainian, Captain Chedra Bodzak, a no-nonsense
officer of the law who stuck to the regulations set down by the
codebook she carried and constantly consulted.
Before Argor could make any
real headway on his dino-army, his first two groups of
mutated dinosaurs - the Extreme Dinosaurs and the vicious
Raptor Gang - faced off against one another. In the wake of
their struggle, one of the raptor's weapons started an
atmospheric chain reaction that hurdled prehistoric earth
into the next Ice Age. To escape the planet-wide
devastation, Chedra and both groups of dinosaurs took refuge
in deep-freeze chambers aboard Chedra's damaged alien craft,
while Argor abandoned his creations and fled back to his own
dimension.
Fast forwarding 65 million years
to the late 20th century, archaeologists discovered the
spaceship and unwittingly activated the cryo-chambers, reviving
the dinosaurs and releasing them on the modern world. The Raptor
Gang - made up of Bad Rap, Spittor and Haxx (all Velociraptors)
- continued their evil ways, while Chedra and the Extreme
Dinosaurs - consisting of T-Bone (a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and the
leader of the team), Bullzeye (an excitable Pteradon who was
addicted to infomercials and a compulsive spender), Spike (a
Triceratops who provided brawn and muscle), and Stegz (a
Stegosaurus who was the intellectual of the bunch) - teamed up
to stop the Raptors.
T-Bone and his gang, along with
Chedra, set up a base of operations at a remote, roadside
dinosaur museum run by Porcupine McVells, who wasn't overly
surprised when confronted with living dinosaurs and an alien
because he lived in the vicinity of Roswell and was used to
seeing oddities. In addition to the problems created by the
Raptor Gang, and the chiding the Extreme Dinosaurs had to face
from Chedra every time they even remotely broke an edict set
forth by her codebook (which, coincidentally, was 65 million
years out of date and from another dimension to boot!), the
Extreme Dinosaurs were also forced to elude Dr. Becky Scarwell
and her top secret government task force, who considered
dinosaurs running free a threat to the nation's security and
welfare.
The tone
of the series was similar to that of Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles, where the levity of light-hearted banter kept the
stories from becoming overly serious, while providing enough
butt kicking action to keep die-hard action fans happy. The show
originally aired for one season consisting of 52 episodes,
although more can be seen of the dinosaurs by watching the last
few episodes of the series Street Sharks, where they made their
initial appearance. |
