A small, excitable
duck, who was only slightly easier to understand than his more
famous relative in the sailor suit, Yakky Doodle needed
considerable guidance in the art of recognizing danger. He was
prone to being eaten by the likes of such villains as Fibber
Fox and Alfy Gator, but, luckily, had a pal and protector by
the name of Chopper, a friendly but formidable bulldog.
Yakky made his first appearance in 1960 in an episode of Augie
Doggie & Doggie Daddy, which led to the character getting his
own segment on the newly created Yogi Bear Show one year
later. But he never became a superstar in the world of
cartoons, and when, in 1962, The Yogi Bear Show stopped being
produced, Yakky Doodle followed suit. After that, Yakky's fate
was that of most Hanna-Barbera characters, appearing now and
then on ensemble shows like Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics
and Wacky Races.
