Synopsis:

Another spin-off from Wacky Races (The Perils of Penelope Pitstop was the first), the sneaky and conniving bad guy duo from that series, Dastardly and Muttley, found themselves starring in this World War I-era comedy. Interestingly enough, the antagonists were the principal characters this time around.

The mustachioed Dastardly and the snickering pooch Muttley flew all types of biplanes in an effort to stop the American carrier pigeon, Yankee Doodle, from crossing enemy lines. Aiding Dastardly and Muttley (and just as often getting in their way) were the two inept Vulture Squadron mechanics, Klunk and Zilly.

Although it was never made clear exactly what enemy country Dastardly was protecting, it is entirely possible that the bad-guy duo, members of the Vulture Squadron, was inspired by the German aviators of the first World War.

Not to be outshone by his human counterpart, Muttley had his own two-and-a-half-minute segment called "The Magnificent Muttleys", in which he fantasized in a Walter Mitty-type fashion about being the hero of the war.

Also notable was the show's theme song, “Stop That Pigeon,” which repeated those three words over and over, until they must have been in the heads of every viewer. Many people grew up thinking that the song’s title was actually the name of the show.

After the series ended, Dastardly and Muttley went on a fourteen year hiatus before they once again became part of an ensemble cast when they, along with Quick Draw McGraw, Jabberjaw, Snagglepuss and several other Hanna-Barbera characters from defunct series became regulars in the 1985 series Yogi's Treasure Hunt.

Opening Lyrics:

"Muttley you snickering floppy eared hound,

When courage is needed, you're never around!

Those medals you wear on your moth-eaten chest,

Should be there for bungling at which you are best!

So, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon,

Stop that Pigeon

How?

Nab him! Jab him! Tab him! Grab him!

Stop that pigeon

Now!

You Zilly, stop sneaking it's not worth the chance,

For you'll be returned by the seat of your pants!

And Klunk, you invent me a thingamybob,

That catches that pigeon, or I lose my job!

So, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon, Stop The Pigeon

Stop that Pigeon

How?

Nab him! Jab him! Tab him! Grab him!

Stop that pigeon

Now!"
